When Writing the Great American Novel, You’re Going to Need a Cast Iron Elephant

I don’t know what era in English letters holds sway in the hearts and minds of students studying literature these days, but back when I was majoring in English the style of George Orwell and Ernest Hemingway loomed pretty large. So for the most recent Roving Home Stylebook I laid out the elements of a desk for the great American novelist, circa 1930s, with the spirits of Hemingway & Co. looking over my shoulder.
