Find of the Week: Antique Chair

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This week’s find: a beautifully worn chair with a perfect cane seat.  The best part of the chair is the faux wood grain.  It doesn’t look much like the real thing, but I’ve decided that this is actually the point of faux painting.  To look like faux painting.  Which stands on its own merits as an expression of the decorative arts, and doesn’t need to pretend to be real wood to be compelling.

The one rule I gave my family upon darkening our door with this chair? No standing on the seat.  Ever.  Unless one of my pre-schoolers wants to apprentice himself to a chair caner, because that’s the only way this chair will ever be fixed should a foot go through it trying to reach an idiotic toy airplane that has landed on the top of the bookshelf.
